Boomers Fall to Beach Bums in Opener

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — An early 2-0 lead for the Schaumburg Boomers was not enough to hold off the Traverse City Beach Bums who knocked off the Boomers in Game One of the three game series 10-2

The Boomers scored two runs to take a quick 2-0 lead in the fourth inning off of Traverse City starter, Scott Dunn, as Brian McConkey blooped an RBI single into left field to plate Chad Mozingo who was the only Boomers batter to tally multi-hits in the game. A batter later, Sean Mahley added to the lead with a sacrifice fly to score Steve McQuail. From there, Dunn and Chris Squires shut down the Schaumburg swings for the remainder of the contest holding the Boomers to just one hit from the fifth inning on. Cody Griebling took his third loss of the season allowing four runs on six hits in five innings of work.

Schaumburg will play game two Wednesday night at Wuerfel Park as RHP Matt Kuna (2-0, 1.10) will square off against RHP Jake Sabol (5-2, 1.69) for the Beach Bums. The Boomers will be back at home for a six-game homestand on July 2nd against the Southern Illinois Miners.
