Boomers Take Series in Traverse City in Eleventh

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — What was the exact opposite of the first two offensive filled contests, the Schaumburg Boomers needed just one run that came across in the top of the 11th to take the series at Traverse City.

Bobby Martin chopped a pitch off of RHP Chris Squires in the top of the 11th that plated Sean Mahley all the way from second base to put the Boomers ahead 1-0 in extra frames. RHP Chris Phelan tossed his second straight quality outing of seven innings of scoreless baseball and was not a factor in the decision.

Schaumburg’s bullpen combination of RHP Preston Hatcher and RHP Dexter Price stymied the Bums bats for the final four innings striking out a combined eight hitters during that span. Mahley and Chad Mozingo each tallied two of the six that the Boomers manufactured in the victory.

Schaumburg will play head closer to home with a to continue the six-game road trip Friday night against the Joliet Slammers as RHP Mike Giovenco (3-3, 4.78) will square off against RHP Evan Anundsen (3-4, 6.00) for the Slammers. The Boomers will be back at home for a six-game homestand on July 2nd against the Southern Illinois Miners.
