Four Run First Ignites Boomers

JOLIET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers staked starting pitcher Danny Jimenez a 4-0 lead before the lefty even took to the mound in a 6-2 victory over the Joliet Slammers on Saturday night.

Schaumburg sent eight men to the plate in the first as four different individuals drove home runs. Gerard Hall recorded a one-out walk, stole second, and scored the first run on a Frank Pfister single. Steve McQuail and Ty Nelson netted RBI doubles in the inning while Brian McConkey also logged an RBI single.

The early offense was more than enough for Jimenez, who earned his second win of the season. Jimenez worked 6.2 innings, allowing just a single run in the fourth. The St. Charles, Ill. native struck out four and scattered eight hits. The Boomers added single runs in the fifth and ninth for insurance.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. RHP Cody Griebling (4-3, 5.76) will start for the Boomers with LHP Corey Kimes (2-4, 5.00) countering for Joliet.
