Boomers Hold Off Rockford

LOVES PARK, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers held off the Rockford Aviators 9-8 on Tuesday night to claim their fifth consecutive victory, leaving the tying run at third in the ninth.

Seth Webster, signed on Sunday, set the tone from the outset. The rookie from Louisiana made his first professional start and did not allow an earned run in six innings of work, scattering just three hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Webster earned the win due to plenty of run support. Every member of the Schaumburg lineup posted a hit. The Boomers opened the scoring with a three-run second inning. All three runs came with two outs. Alexi Colon opened the scoring with an RBI single and Chad Mozingo registered a two-run double in the frame. Mozingo also homered in the contest.

The Boomers went on to match a franchise record with six doubles and scored runs in six different innings. Mozingo knocked in three runs while Sean Mahley drove home two. Jordan Dean led a 15-hit attack with three hits. Dexter Price was able to finish off the win despite allowing three unearned runs in the ninth. The Boomers allowed five unearned runs in the game.

The Boomers (28-19) are a season high nine games over the .500 mark. The series continues on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. with All-Star RHP Chris Phelan (3-0, 1.72) on the hill against RHP Nick Anderson (2-4, 8.28).
