Boomers Drop Back and Forth Affair

LOVES PARK, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers rallied from down three runs but allowed the Rockford Aviators to plate two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a back and forth affair with a 7-5 victory.

Rockford scored twice in the fourth inning to open a 2-0 edge and added two more in the sixth to go in front 4-1. Schaumburg struck for three runs in the seventh to tie the game. Chad Mozingo registered a two-run double in the inning and Frank Pfister evened the game with a sacrifice fly. The Boomers grabbed the lead in the eighth for the first time. Sean Mahley doubled to open the frame and scored when Alexi Colon lifted a sacrifice fly. Rockford was able to score three runs in the bottom of the eighth to grab the lead again and score the win.

All-Star Starter Chris Phelan worked just four innings and allowed two runs. Devon Pearson suffered the loss. Mozingo and Mahley posted two hits apiece.

The loss halted a five-game winning streak for the Boomers (28-20). The rubber matchup of the series is on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Mike Giovenco (4-4, 4.47) is on the hill against RHP Trevor Harden (2-4, 4.00).
