Schaumburg Soars Past Aviators

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers scored seven unanswered runs to soar past the Rockford Aviators 7-3 and take the road series on Thursday night. 

Mike Giovenco notched his longest start of the season, working 7.2 innings to earn the win. Giovenco struck out six and allowed just a second inning run.

The Boomers tied the game in the third on a sacrifice fly from Gerard Hall and that's where the score remained until Schaumburg finally broke through against the Rockford bullpen in the top of the seventh. Mounting a two-out rally, Steve McQuail recorded a two-run single to put the Boomers ahead. Brian McConkey added an RBI single in the frame. Schaumburg tacked on three more in the ninth, two of which came on a Sean Mahley double. Mahley pitched the final 1.1 innings to tally his second save of the season.

Schaumburg (29-20) gained ground in the West Division standings with the win. The Boomers have won three of the last four road series and slugged 11 hits in the win. Jordan Dean and Alexi Colon recorded three apiece.
