Comeback Boomers Strike Again in 10-9 Walk-Off

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Bobby Martin’s bases-loaded single in the ninth provided the Schaumburg Boomers with their seventh walk-off win of 2013 to cap a wild final three innings in a 10-9 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums on Saturday night.
 
Martin’s heroics came on an 0-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded to score both Steve McQuail and Brian McConkey. Martin had entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the ninth. The final three innings featured 16 runs in a wild finish that saw the teams trade leads four times. Traverse City took its second lead of the game by scoring three runs with two outs in the top of the ninth.
 
The Boomers held a 2-0 lead behind starter Cody Griebling entering the sixth. Griebling allowed three runs in six innings, walking five and striking out five.

Traverse City, leaders of the East, scored five times in the seventh to grab a 6-2 edge only to allow the Boomers to score six unanswered runs to move ahead 8-6 entering the ninth. Dexter Price earned the win despite blowing the save. McConkey finished with three hits in the game while Frank Pfister and Chad Mozingo tallied two apiece.

The Boomers will face another All-Star as RHP Jake Sabol (6-4, 2.44) takes the mound for Traverse City against RHP Seth Webster (4-4, 5.27).
