Schaumburg Standouts Shine at All-Star Festivities

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - A day after the Boomers Steve McQuail captured the Home Run Derby crown, outfielder Sean Mahley was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2013 Frontier League All-Star Game held at the home of the Wild Things in Washington, Pa.

Five big flys in the final round were enough for the Schaumburg designated hitter to hang on for the 2013 Frontier League Home Run Derby crown on Tuesday evening. Boomers catcher Mike Valadez served as McQuail's pitcher for the title as the Schaumburg slugger held off Chase Burch of the Traverse City Beach Bums.

Schaumburg's five representatives at the 2013 All-Star Game Wednesday night each contributed to a 4-2 win for the West Division, but none more instrumental than Mahley. The second-year pro and two-time all-star selection provided the margin of victory in the contest with a two-out, two-RBI double to cap off a three-run second inning for the West All-Stars.

Prior to Mahley's double, Valadez, who started behind the plate for the West, grounded into a fielder's choice to drive home McQuail and score the first run of the game. Valadez finished 0-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI and McQuail, the other Boomers starter in the game, was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Gerard Hall entered the game at shortstop in the fifth and went 0-2 and Chris Phelan threw one inning in the contest allowing both of the East Division's runs on three hits, a walk and a strikeout.

The Boomers return home on Tuesday, July 23rd for a day/night doubleheader starting with Day Camp Day #2 at 11 a.m. and concluding with Kids Eat Free Tuesday for the 6:30 p.m. nightcap.
