RECAP: Boomers Capture Another Road Series

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Riding a dazzling performance from Mike Giovenco, the Schaumburg Boomers won a road series for the fourth time in the last five tries, posting a 5-3 win over the Washington Wild Things on Sunday.

Giovenco did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. The right-hander struck out seven in claiming his third consecutive victory. The Boomers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Gerard Hall singled home Ty Nelson. Schaumburg padded the lead to 5-0 with a run in the sixth on a Nelson single and two in the seventh on a Jordan Dean RBI single.

Washington strung together three consecutive hits in the bottom of the seventh but left the tying runs on base in the seventh and eighth. James Bierlein shut the door for his fifth save of the season. Steve McQuail finished with three hits as the Boomers drilled 13 in the victory.
