Boomers Fall in Finale with Florence Freedom

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers dropped an extra inning game for the third time this season as the Florence Freedom collected an 8-5 win on Wednesday. 

The Boomers rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 lead with four runs in the seventh. Chad Mozingo plated the first run for Schaumburg with an RBI double in the fifth to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, matching the second longest in team history. Bobby Martin registered a two-run triple to tie the game in the seventh, scoring Ty Nelson and Sean Mahley. Mozingo would put the Boomers in front with an RBI single and Steve McQuail capped the rally with an RBI single as well.

Florence evened the game with a pair of two out unearned runs in the ninth and added three in the 10th to account for the final. The Freedom (33-24), who swept the series, scored six unearned runs in the win. Starter Seth Webster allowed just one earned run in six innings of work, striking out five. Gerard Hall logged three hits as the Boomers smacked 11 in the defeat.

The Boomers (32-26) continue the longest homestand of the season on Thursday night at Boomers Stadium on a Thursty Thursday as the leaders of the West Division, the Gateway Grizzlies, visit.
