RECAP: Gateway Rallies Past Boomers

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Gateway Grizzlies plated four unanswered runs to rally past the Schaumburg Boomers 4-3 before 4,196 fans on a Fireworks Friday at Boomers Stadium.

Schaumburg grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Brian McConkey registered a two-out infield single to bring home Sean Mahley. The Boomers extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer off the bat of Gerard Hall in the bottom of the second.

Both pitchers settled in following a 51-minute rain delay. Gateway’s Tim Brown did not allow another run in throwing seven innings to earn the win. Gateway evened the game with two runs in the sixth and took the lead on an unearned run in the eighth.

Mike Giovenco threw seven innings in the start, striking out four in a no-decision. Clark Labitan was the hard luck loser. Schaumburg finished with 12 hits in the game, three of which came from Alexi Colon.

The Boomers (32-28) continue the longest homestand of the season on Saturday night at Boomers Stadium with the series finale against Gateway. Reserve your piece of the action by visiting www.boomersbaseball.com or calling 847.461.3695.
