RECAP: Boomers Put Brakes on Skid

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers put the brakes on a five-game losing streak by rallying from a three-run deficit to take down the West Division leading Gateway Grizzlies 6-5 on Saturday night.

Gateway opened a 3-0 lead early, using base running and two out hits to plate a run in the first and two in the second. The Grizzlies stole seven bases in the game. The Boomers battled to within 3-2 with single runs in the second and fourth. Two unearned runs allowed Gateway to pad the advantage to 5-2 in the fifth. Alexi Colon plated a run in the bottom of the inning with a single while Gerard Hall knocked home a run in the sixth with a triple to bring Schaumburg within 5-4. Jordan Dean came through with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, floating a two-run single to left to put the Boomers ahead for the first time.

Chris Phelan allowed three earned runs in six innings in a no decision. Adam Tollefson, a key reliever in 2012, made his return to the team and worked 1.2 innings with three strikeouts to earn the win. Dexter Priceworked the final out for the save. Seven individuals posted hits for the Boomers with Hall notching three at the top of the order.
