Comeback Boomers Win Third Straight

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — After falling behind 2-0 and failing to record a hit in the first four innings, the Schaumburg Boomers stormed back to shock the Windy City ThunderBolts and pick up the team’s third consecutive victory by a final score of 4-3.

Brian McConkey was the first to register a base hit for the Boomers in the fifth inning, scoring three batters later on a Ty Nelson single. Schaumburg scored twice in the frame on four singles, tying Windy City at two when Jordan Dean drove home Frank Pfister on a lazy fly that landed in right-center field.

The ThunderBolts struck back in the seventh to take a 3-2 lead, but that just paved the way for a dramatic eighth-inning Boomers comeback.

Chad Mozingo started things off by reaching on an error and stealing second. Sean Mahley followed with a double that drove Mozingo home, tallying Mahley’s 31st RBI of the season and matching his total from last season. Steve McQuail came up to bat and matched a total from 2012 as well, notching his 66th hit of the season and plating Mahley to put the Boomers on top for good.

Seth Webster pitched a solid seven innings for Schaumburg, giving up three runs while striking out seven. Preston Hatcher earned the win in relief by tossing a scoreless eighth, and Dexter Price combined with Adam Tollefson to end the game in the ninth, with Tollefson earning the save in his second Boomers appearance of the season.
