RECAP: Extra-Inning Defeat Stops Win Streak

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Rockford Aviators scored an 11-inning win over the Schaumburg Boomers on Saturday night by a 7-4 score in front of 5,313 fans to stop a franchise record tying six-game win streak.

The back and forth affair saw both teams lead twice. The Boomers grabbed a 2-0 edge with runs in the second and third. Jordan Dean singled home Bobby Martin in the second and Steve McQuail nailed his 14th homer of the season in the third. Rockford couldn’t touch starter Cody Griebling early, who took a no-hitter into the sixth and retired the first 11 batters of the contest.

Kenny Bryant nailed a three-run homer in the seventh to put the Aviators ahead briefly before a two-run homer from Gerard Hall in the eighth again put the Boomers in front. Rockford evened the game in the ninth on a double from Aritz Garcia and plated three in the top of the 11th, taking advantage of three walks, to post the win.

McQuail and Martin picked up two hits each in the loss. The Boomers homered more than once at home for the first time this season. Preston Hatcher suffered the loss. Griebling threw 6.2 innings and allowed just the three runs on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts, after taking a no-hitter into the sixth.
