RECAP: Boomers Rally to Road Sweep

NORMAL, Ill. — Alexi Colon’s two-run two out homer in the top of the seventh inning allowed the Schaumburg Boomers to rally to a series sweep over the Normal CornBelters by a 5-4 final.

Schaumburg has won five straight, 11 of 12, and owns an eight-game road win streak, longest in the league this season. The Boomers held a brief 1-0 lead in the third before a two-run homer from Aaron Dudley put the CornBelters ahead and started a call and response with Normal retaking the lead every time the Boomers responded. Schaumburg trailed 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 in the game before the homer from Colon, who finished with two hits.

The Boomers needed to use six different pitchers as starter Cody Griebling exited with an injury following just 3.1 innings. James Bierleinbridged the gap with 2.2 innings of relief to earn the win while Dexter Price worked the ninth for his ninth save.

The Boomers (43-29) will continue a six game raodtrip with a doubleheader at Evansville on Saturday beginning at 4:35 p.m. RHP Matt Kuna (6-3, 2.66) starts for the Boomers in the opener with the bullpen receiving the call in game two. The Otters will counter with RHP Robert Ramer (0-0, 3.60) and LHP Ryan Gibson (0-4, 4.50). The Boomers return home on August 13.
