First Place Boomers Come Back to Win

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers extended their lead in the Frontier League’s West Division to two games with 17 to play by rallying from three runs down to steal a 4-3 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums before 5,985 on Friday night.

Traverse City, who entered the game as the co-leaders of the East, broke open a scoreless contest with three fifth-inning runs, two of which crossed on a double from Carlo Testa. Schaumburg plucked a run off the lead in the bottom of the inning when Gerard Hall scored from second on a wild pitch.

Bubba Dotson hit a solo homer in the sixth to bring the Boomers within a run. Schaumburg struck for two runs without the luxury of a hit in the seventh, grabbing the lead. After the bases were walked full, Sean Mahley crossed on a wild pitch and Frank Pfister lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Steve McQuail with the winning run.

Matt Kuna started and allowed three runs in five innings. James Bierlein earned the win with two scoreless frames, striking out three. Dexter Price recorded the final three outs for his 11th save of the season. Mahley finished with three hits as the Boomers notched eight.
