Boomers Roll to Third Straight Victory

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers became the first team in the Frontier League to defeat Traverse City ace Scott Dunn, recording a 9-4 win before 4,265 fans on a night when the team surpassed its 2012 attendance total with eight home games remaining.

Schaumburg set the tone early. Jordan Dean battled through an eight pitch at bat against Dunn to open the game with a single and scored on a Sean Mahley groundout. Steve McQuail later blasted his 17th home run of the season. Traverse City put a run on the board in the second but the Boomers answered in the bottom of the inning and tacked on two more with a Brian McConkey double in the third. Leading 5-2, the Boomers added three eighth-inning runs to put the game out of reach. Dunn lasted just five innings, matching his season low while falling to 14-1.

Seth Webster won his third straight start, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Devon Pearson, Clark Labitan, Mahley, and Dexter Price combined on the victory. The Boomers slugged 12 hits with three coming from each Mahley and McQuail.

The Boomers (48-32) are a season-high 16 games over the .500 mark and own a three-game lead in the West Division.
