RECAP: Boomers Trip Greys 3-1 Tuesday

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Tony Delmonico threw six shutout innings to earn his first professional win as the Schaumburg Boomers matched last season’s win total with a 3-1 victory over the Frontier Greys on Tuesday, lowering their magic number to win the West Division to three.

Delmonico allowed just three hits while striking out a career best seven to earn the win. The Boomers provided Delmonico with plenty of run support in the first inning, scoring two runs on three straight singles. Steve McQuail poked an RBI single to left as the third consecutive knock while the other run scored on an error. The Greys pulled within 2-1 with a run in the eight but Justin Vasquez hurt his former team with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame to provide the insurance.

Dexter Price tossed 1.1 innings to earn the save. Vasquez posted three hits against the team he was traded from last week at the transaction deadline. Gerard Hall notched two hits and scored two of the three runs while McQuail also picked up a pair of hits. McQuail and Hall doubled, setting a new single season record for doubles with 23. Chad Mozingo posted 22 doubles last year.

The Boomers (54-34) remain six games up in the West Division over the Gateway Grizzlies with eight games to play and currently own the best record in the league. The series continues on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

RHP Shawn Sanford (9-5, 2.87) takes to the hill for the Boomers while the Greys counter with RHP Casey Delgado (1-5, 4.01). Playoff tickets are on sale now and reserve your piece of the action by calling 847.461.3695 or visiting www.boomersbaseball.com.
