RECAP: Boomers Bounced in Day Game

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Frontier Greys lashed 17 hits and scored in seven different innings on the way to a 12-3 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers in the final day game of the season on Wednesday afternoon.

Every member of the starting lineup had a hit for the Greys, who broke open a 1-0 game with four runs in the second. Shawn Sanford suffered the loss, starting for the first time in front of the home fans. Sanford allowed four earned runs in five innings. The Boomers left 13 on base in the defeat. Steve McQuail reached in all four of his plate appearances, recording his 24th double of the season. McQuail also drove home two of the three runs. Keith Werman recorded two hits, a walk, and a stolen base. Sean Mahley pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.

The Boomers (54-35) still have a magic number of three to clinch the West Division title with seven games left in the season and could potentially lock up either the title or a playoff slot in Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. finale.

RHP Seth Webster (5-1, 2.18) takes to the hill for the Boomers while the Greys have scheduled RHP Casey Delgado (1-5, 4.01). Playoff tickets are on sale now. Reserve your piece of the action by calling 847.461.3695 or visiting www.boomersbaseball.com.
