RECAP: Boomers Stomp Otters
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A night after winning the West Division crown in a tight contest, the Schaumburg Boomers didn’t need any drama in a 14-0 stomping of the Evansville Otters, scoring 10 runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach and record their fifth shutout of the season, all on the road.

The Boomers used a pair of homers to open a 3-0 lead. Bobby Martin homered in the top of the first inning, his first as a professional. Steve McQuail drilled his 19th of the year in the fourth, a two-run blast.

The Boomers added an insurance run in the sixth before breaking the game open with a gigantic eighth that featured five consecutive hits and six total in the frame. The 10 runs match a franchise record for runs in an inning.

Mike Giovenco was the beneficiary of the run support, throwing 7.2 shutout innings to halt a three start losing streak. Giovenco walked one and struck out three. McQuail and Brian McConkey each drove home three runs as the Boomers totaled 12 hits.

The Boomers (57-35) have not lost a road series since June. Schaumburg, winners of three straight, owns the best road record in the league and will aim for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 5:05 p.m. RHP Tony Delmonico (1-1, 4.78) is on the hill for the Boomers opposite RHP Robert Ramer (3-0, 2.89).

Playoff tickets are on sale now. Schaumburg opens the playoffs at home on September 7 at 8:00 p.m. Reserve your piece of the action by calling 847.461.3695 or visiting www.boomersbaseball.com.
