SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The West Division Champion Schaumburg Boomers recorded another late inning victory to pull within a win of a Frontier League Championship, posting a 7-5 decision over the Lake Erie Crushers to grab a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-five series.

Justin Vasquez poked the first offering from reliever Mickey Jannis into centerfield to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and account for the difference. The Boomers failed to hold a 5-1 lead earlier in the game. Trailing 1-0, Schaumburg struck for five runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab the lead, taking advantage of two errors. Michael Valadez tied the game with a bases loaded groundout. Jordan Dean reached on an error that allowed the go ahead run to cross. Gerard Hall roped a two-run triple to right and Sean Mahley finished the scoring with an RBI single. 

Lake Erie battled back, utilizing three unearned runs in the fifth to tie the game against starter Shawn Sanford. Andrew Davis came through with a two out two-run single to even the game. Sanford threw six innings and allowed just two earned runs, striking out four in a no decision. Mike Giovenco collected the win, his third of the playoffs. Giovenco worked two scoreless frames. Dexter Price picked up his second consecutive save, working the ninth.

Schaumburg has won every game of the playoffs in the seventh inning or later. Vasquez tallied three hits in the win with Hall and Mahley picking up two apiece. 

The Boomers (59-37, 5-0) will try and secure the first championship in team history on the road. Game three of the series is slated for All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio on Tuesday night at 6:05 p.m. Central. RHP Seth Webster (6-1, 2.40/0-0, 9.00) starts for the Boomers against LHP Matt Rein (8-6, 2.37/2-0, 1.22), who is scheduled for Lake Erie.
