Boomers to Host College World Series Qualifier Tournament

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Schaumburg Boomers Stadium will play host to the final step before the World Series with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4 Baseball Tournament from Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18, it was announced today.

In Division II, the competitors in the double-elimination tournament format are: the defending champion #1 Madison College Wolfpack  (Madison, WI), #2 Kankakee Community College Cavaliers (Kankakee, IL), #5 Black Hawk College Braves (Moline, IL) and the #6 Prairie State College Pioneers (Chicago Heights, IL). In Division III the final two teams in a best two out of three series are: The #1 Joliet Junior College Wolves versus the defending champion #3 Waubonsee Community College Chiefs.

This three-day tournament features the Region 4 Sectional Tournament winners and some of the top regional teams in NJCAA Division II and III from Region 4. Tickets are available now exclusively through the Boomers Box Office in person, online at www.boomersbaseball.com and over the phone at 847.461.3695 for $5 per game, with tournament passes for the entire weekend for $20.

“Boomers Stadium is about a lot more than just Boomers baseball, and we’re excited to give the talented and dedicated student-athletes in the NJCAA the opportunity to compete for a championship on our field,” Andy Viano, President and General Manager of the Schaumburg Boomers said. “The Village of Schaumburg and Schaumburg Park District built this stadium for the community at large, and we hope to see a number of local student-athletes back at home competing in this tournament.”

In 2013, Madison (Wis.) College defeated Kankakee Community College in the Division II Region 4 World Series Qualifier Tournament Championship while in Division III, Waubonsee Community College knocked off Harper College to advance to the World Series. Region 4 includes area schools such as Oakton Community College, coached by Boomers First Base Coach Bill Fratto, Elgin Community College, Harper College, College of DuPage, McHenry County College and other Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin NJCAA-affiliated colleges.
