St. Charles Native Jimenez, Two Rookies Added to Roster

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — After an injury cut short his 2013 season in Schaumburg, St. Charles High School alum, Danny Jimenez agreed to terms with the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, along with rookie right-hander Seafth Howe out of Seattle University and rookie outfielder Zac Zdanowicz from Henderson State University.

Jimenez, 24, spent four years with the Cleveland Indians organization before making 10 starts for Schaumburg last year. The St. Charles native earned a 2-4 record and a 3.90 ERA over 55.1 innings to go along with 48 strikeouts before an injury cut short his 2013 season.

Howe, 23, joins the Boomers after appearing in 23 games, including 13 starts, with the Rockford Aviators in 2013. The 6-foot-5 right-hander earned a 4-5 record with a 5.75 ERA over 81.1 innings pitched during his first season as a pro. Over two seasons at Seattle University, the Snohomish, Wash. native earned an 8-9 record with a 3.31 ERA in 28 appearances and 27 starts.

Zdanowicz, 24, was a First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference selection after an outstanding senior season in at Division II Henderson State University. The 5-foot-9 outfielder led the Reddies with a .397/.471/.539 stat line and collected 38 runs scored, 12 doubles and 20 stolen bases in 2013.

With the additions of Jimenez, Howe and Zdanowicz, the Boomers officially have 25 players signed to contracts for the 2014 season. The latest additions will join outfielders Alexi Colon, Bobby Martin, Jordan Owen and Justin Vasquez; pitchers Gilbert BarraraJames Bierlein, Cal Bowling, Max Duval, Preston HatcherClark LabitanMatt Lamothe, Dexter Price, Erik Shannahan, Anthony Smith and Seth Webster; catchers Michael Valadez, Ty Nelson and Cody Coffman; and infielders Jordan Dean, Brian McConkey, Ryan Normoyle, Tyler Sciacca and Cameron Sherrer on what will be a maximum 34-man roster when Spring Training begins on May 1 at Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg.

LHP DANNY JIMENEZ

Jimenez, 24, was settling into his role as the as one of the top pitchers on the staff before an injury forced him to miss the rest of the 2013 season. The southpaw made 10 starts for Schaumburg with a 2-4 record and a 3.90 ERA over 55.1 innings to go along with 48 strikeouts against just 19 walks.

Jimenez was originally drafted in the 37th round of the 2008 MLB First Year Player Draft out of St. Charles North but chose to attend John A. Logan College in Carterville, Ill. for one year prior to starting his professional career.  As a freshman at John A. Logan, Jimenez posted a 6-2 record with a sparkling 2.02 ERA over 12 appearances. The left-hander tossed 89.1 innings and surrendered just 20 earned runs and 70 hits while also racking up 94 strikeouts.

The decision definitely paid off as after a sensational season in college, the Cleveland Indians took Jimenez in the 23rd round of the 2009 draft. After two seasons in the Arizona League, Jimenez put together his best campaign as a pro in 2011 with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the New York-Penn League. In 71.2 innings, Jimenez earned a 4-3 record, a 2.39 ERA and was named to the All-Star Team. For his professional career, Jimenez boasts a 3.47 earned run average in 212.2 innings to go along with a 13-11 record and 155 strikeouts.

RHP SEAFTH HOWE

Howe, 23, joins the Boomers after appearing in 23 games, including 13 starts, with the Rockford Aviators in 2013. The 6-foot-5 right-hander earned a 4-5 record with a 5.75 ERA over 81.1 innings pitched during his first season as a pro. Howe struck out 75 batters against just 27 walks with the Aviators.

Prior to going pro, Howe split his college career between Bellevue College and Division-I Seattle University. Over two seasons at Seattle, the Snohomish, Wash. native earned an 8-9 record with a 3.31 ERA in 28 appearances and 27 starts. In 157.2 innings pitched, Howe struck out 63 opponents and collected a pair of complete games. At Bellevue, Howe went 12-0 as a sophomore to earn the team’s Most Valuable Player and was named First Team All-Conference in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC).

OF ZAC ZDANOWICZ

Zdanowicz, 24, was a First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference selection after an outstanding senior season in at Division II Henderson State University. The 5-foot-9 outfielder led the Reddies with a .397/.471/.539 stat line and collected 38 runs scored, 12 doubles and 20 stolen bases in 2013.

Over his three years at Henderson State, the Albuquerque, N.M. native owns a .314 average with 31 doubles, 65 runs batted in, 53 stolen bases and earned 79 walks against 72 strikeouts. Zdanowicz began his college career with a season at Dodge City Community College where he batted .487 with 12 doubles in 2009.
