RECAP: Boomers Edged Again at Lake Erie

SCHAUMBURG, Ill - The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, suffered another walk-off defeat at the hands of the Lake Erie Crushers on Sunday, losing 2-1 in 11 innings.

Danny Jimenez made a triumphant return after missing the entire second half of last year with an injury. Jimenez allowed just one run on four hits in 5.2 innings. Schaumburg held a 1-0 lead thanks to a Ben Kline triple off the wall and a Bobby Martin sacrifice fly in the fourth. Lake Erie evened the game in the sixth and won on a dribbler up the first base line in the bottom of the 11th. Justin Vasquez logged three hits in the loss with Kline adding a pair. Anthony Smith twirled 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Jimenez.

The Boomers were swept in the opening series of the 2014 season but will aim for the first win of the year when a road series begins at the Southern Illinois Miners on Tuesday night. RHP Seth Webster (0-0, 0.00) will oppose RHP Tyler Lavigne 0-0, 0.00) in the 7:05 p.m. contest that can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN.
