RECAP: Boomers Clipped at Southern Illinois

MARION, Illinois — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied, but could not complete a comeback in a 4-2 loss to the Southern Illinois Miners.

Schaumburg (0-4) did not lead in the game, squandering a first inning triple. Southern Illinois held a 1-0 lead, scoring in the bottom of the first but the Boomers battled back to even the score in the fourth when Michael Valadez plated Ben Kline with a single. Southern Illinois added three more to take a 4-1 lead, but Justin Vasquez tripled and scored on a Sean Mahley sacrifice fly in the eighth. The Boomers put the tying runs on base in the ninth but could not break through. Seth Webster suffered the tough loss, allowing just two runs in five innings while striking out five. Jordan Dean and Vasquez posted two hits apiece.
