RECAP: Boomers Rally to First Win

MARION, Illinois — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, plated four runs in the eighth inning to record the first win of 2014, a 5-2 road victory over the Southern Illinois Miners.

The Boomers scored the final five runs of the contest after falling behind 2-0 in the second. Ryan Normoyle posted the big blow. Pinch hitting with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, Normoyle roped a three-run double to hand Schaumburg a 4-2 lead. Alexi Colon followed with a triple to provide insurance. Clark Labitan earned the win in relief while Dexter Price shut the door on his first save. Rey Rodriguez lasted four innings in his pro debut, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The final game of the roadtrip is on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Cal Bowling (0-1, 7.20) will make his second start of the year against RHP Miguel Ramirez (0-0, 0.00).
