RECAP: Boomers Roll to Series Win

MARION, Illinois — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, scored in the each of the first four innings to roll to an 8-3 road win over the Southern Illinois Miners in the rubber game of a three-game series.

Schaumburg chased Southern Illinois starter Miguel Ramirez after just 3.1 innings, breaking open a close game with five runs in the fourth.Jordan DeanJustin VasquezMark Nelson, and Ben Kline all drove home runs during the outburst, which saw the Boomers bat around. Cal Bowling was the beneficiary of the run support, working six innings on the mound and allowing three runs to even his record at 1-1.

Schaumburg established season highs in runs and hits in taking the series. Vasquez finished with four hits while Kline drove home two and Dean scored twice. Ryan McChesney doubled twice in his first start of the season behind the plate.

The Boomers (2-4) finally have a chance to play at home on Friday, raising the 2013 Frontier League Championship banner in a 6:30 p.m. game against the Florence Freedom. RHP Charle Rosario (0-0, 0.00) receives the nod for the home opener against RHP Casey Henn (0-0, 4.50).
