RECAP: Boomers Edged by Florence

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, saw a four game win streak come to an end with a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Florence Freedom on Sunday's Memorial Day Celebration at Boomers Stadium.

Trailing 1-0, the Boomers opened a 4-1 lead by striking four times in the bottom of the fifth. Jordan Dean tied the game with the third consecutive single in the frame, bringing home Michael ValadezTyler Sciacca put the Boomers ahead with a safety squeeze bunt single. The third run scored on an error and Alexi Colonalso lifted a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Florence slowly chipped away, scoring in three straight innings to take a 5-4 lead in the eighth. Starter Seth Webster threw 5.2 innings in a no decision and James Bierlein suffered the loss. The offense matched a season high with 11 hits led by three from Valadez. Sean Mahley added two along with Dean.

The Boomers (4-5) return to the field on Tuesday with the first of a three game series against the Gateway Grizzlies at 6:30 p.m. on a Kids Eat Free Tuesday. LHP Rey Rodriguez (0-0, 4.50) starts opposite RHP Dejai Oliver (2-0, 2.08).
