RECAP: Boomers Drop Slugfest

O’FALLON, Mo. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped an 11-8 slugfest to the River City Rascals in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night.

Alexi Colon finally connected on the first homer of the season for the Boomers in the top of the first but River City sent 10 men to the plate in the bottom of the inning and stroked six hits to open a 5-1 lead. The Boomers constantly battled, fighting to within striking distance late. Mark Nelson logged a two-run single in the sixth. Brian McConkey doubled home a run in the seventh with Tyler Sciacca stroking a two-run single. Bobby Martin brought home the final run with a solo homer in the eighth. Schaumburg amassed a season high 12 hits in the game with four players posting two apiece. Danny Jimenez suffered the loss, throwing over 100 pitches in just 3.2 innings.

The series will continue on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Seth Webster (0-1, 4.22) takes the ball for the Boomers against RHP Craig Goodman (0-1, 5.06).
