RECAP: Boomers Batter Greys

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, unloaded a season-high nine runs and 13 hits in a 9-6 victory over the Frontier Greys, halting a four-game slide in the opener of a six-game homestand on Tuesday night. 

The game took an early turn. The Greys received a leadoff triple but could not score against Schaumburg starterAnthony Smith, who worked six innings in the win. With two outs in the bottom of the inning the Boomers busted out five runs on five hits to take command early. Ryan McChesney opened the scoring with a two-run double, the second of three two-baggers in the frame. Denver ChavezBrian McConkey, and Ty Nelson also drove home runs in the frame.

The Greys fought all the way within 8-6 and left the tying runs in scoring position in the eighth. Mark Nelson drilled his first pro homer in the bottom of the eighth to account for the final tally. Dexter Price retired all four batters for the extended save, his fourth. McConkey recorded three hits and McChesney drove home three as the Boomers accumulated a season high 13 hits.

The Boomers (7-9) continue the series with the Greys on Wednesday night with a 6:30 p.m. contest on a Half Price Night. LHP Danny Jimenez (1-1, 6.32) takes the ball against RHP Kyle Blair (0-1, 5.14).
