RECAP: Schaumburg Scampers Past Greys

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied for the first walk-off win of the season, a 3-2 decision over the Frontier Greys in 10 innings on Wednesday night.

The Greys grabbed an early 2-0 advantage with a pair of first inning runs against Schaumburg starter Danny Jimenez but did not score again. Jimenez worked through six innings, allowing just two runs with a walk and five strikeouts. The Boomers rallied against the bullpen after struggling against Kyle Blair, who surrendered just two hits. Michael Valadez drew a two out walk and came around with the first run on a triple from Mark NelsonJordan Dean tied the game with a bunt single to score Bobby Martin in the eighth.

The winning run scored in the 10th without a hit as Dean was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on an error and strutted home with two outs on a game ending wild pitch. The walk-off wild pitch was the second in team history as the first ever walk-off win on May 26, 2012 also ended on a wild one in a 13-inning 1-0 win over the Florence Freedom. Dexter Price picked up the win with two innings of work, striking out three.

The series concludes on a Thirsty Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Boomers (8-9) send RHP Seth Webster (0-2, 5.40) opposite LHP Brandon Rohde (1-1, 4.15).
