RECAP: Boomers Blank Greys for Sweep

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, collected a 1-0 shutout of the Frontier Greys on Thursday night to sweep the series.

Starting pitcher Seth Webster set the tone from the outset, striking out the first four hitters of the game, requiring just 10 pitches to strike out the side in the first. Webster matched a career high with eight strikeouts in the contest, tossing seven blank frames and allowing just three hits to earn his first win of the season.

The lone run scored in the bottom of the sixth. Jordan Dean logged a one out double, stole third, and crossed the plate on a Mark Nelson sacrifice fly. Hunter Ackerman recorded a strikeout to end the game, registering his first save.

The Southern Illinois Miners visit on Friday night to open a three game series between the last two Frontier League champions. It is Superhero night and the 6:30 p.m. contest will feature postgame fireworks. LHP Rey Rodriguez (1-0, 2.08) starts for the Boomers (9-9) against RHP Tyler Lavigne (2-0, 0.93). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
