RECAP: Boomers Stopped by Miners

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped a 4-3 decision to the Southern Illinois Miners in the opener of a series on Friday night.

Southern Illinois built a 4-0 lead against starter Rey Rodriguez. The Miners scored a run in the first and added two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Rodriguez worked six innings and allowed three earned runs for a quality outing.

Schaumburg plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within a single run. Jordan Dean and Tyler Sciacca registered run scoring hits in the frame while Ryan McChesney lifted a sacrifice fly. Dean finished with a pair of hits in the game. The Boomers put the tying run on base in the final three innings but could not tie the game.

The series continues on Saturday night with Field of Screams at Boomers Stadium as the Boomers transform into the Schaumburg Zombies for one night. The contest also features postgame fireworks. RHP Cal Bowling (2-2, 3.60) opposes LHP Matt Bywater (1-0, 3.09) in the 6:00 p.m. affair. The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
