RECAP: Boomers Tripped in Opener at Windy City

CRESTWOOD, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, suffered a 4-2 loss to the Windy City ThunderBolts in the opener of a road series on Friday.

Schaumburg opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Mark Nelson recorded an RBI single to drive home Justin Vasquez and with one away Michael Valadez plated Ty Nelson with a single. Windy City scored four unanswered runs to grab the victory, plating a pair in the sixth to take the lead. Starter Cal Bowling suffered the loss, working five innings and allowing three runs. Both teams posted nine hits with Alexi Colon, Justin Vasquez, and Mark Nelson notching two apiece for the Boomers.

The Boomers (13-12) will send RHP Anthony Smith (2-1, 3.25) to the mound for game two of the series at 6:05 p.m. against RHP Jason Kafka (0-0, 5.55).
