RECAP: Boomers Double Up ThunderBolts

The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, led wire-to-wire in a 4-2 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Saturday night.

Taking the lead for good required only two batters for the Boomers. Alexi Colon opened the game with a triple, the league best 10th of the year for Schaumburg, and scored when Tyler Sciacca reached on an error. The lead reached 2-0 in the second when Ryan Solberg recorded his first professional RBI with a sacrifice fly to bring home Mark Nelson. Windy City struck for a run in the bottom of the inning but starter Anthony Smith stranded runners at the corners to preserve the lead. Smith worked seven innings to win his third consecutive start. The Boomers added to the lead in the fourth and tacked on another run in the sixth with a run scoring single from Solberg. Dexter Price pitched the ninth for his seventh save in as many attempts. Solberg and Colon collected a pair of hits in the game.

The Boomers (14-12) will aim for the series victory and a winning roadtrip in the 2:05 p.m. finale on Sunday. RHP Seth Webster (1-2, 3.25) starts for the Boomers on short rest opposite RHP Daniel Cropper (2-3, 5.81). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
