RECAP: Boomers Rally Late, Fall in Extras

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied in the ninth but dropped a 6-5 decision to the River City Rascals in 11 innings on Tuesday night.

Homers played a huge part in the game as the teams combined for five in the contest. River City hit a pair of homers in the third to grab a 3-0 lead. The Rascals led 4-1 entering the ninth before the Boomers were involved in the homer parade. Ryan McChesney belted a solo homer off River City closer Gabe Shaw to pull the Boomers within 4-2.

Two batters later, Jordan Dean drilled his first longball as a professional, tying the game. Shaw had surrendered just two runs all season, but the Boomers have touched him for four runs this year. River City scored twice in the 11th to take the lead but the Boomers made another charge, leaving the tying run at third. Dexter Price suffered the loss in relief.

The Boomers (15-13) continue the series on Wednesday morning with an 11:00 a.m. contest. The starter for Schaumburg is TBA while River City counters with LHP Cory Caruso (1-3, 6.51). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
