RECAP: Boomers Blast Past ThunderBolts

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, waited through a lengthy rain delay to score a 4-3 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts on Saturday night and claim their fourth consecutive victory.

Jordan Dean and Gerard Hall opened the game with consecutive singles and Justin Vasquez handed the Boomers a 1-0 lead with a fielder’s choice. Windy City tied the game in the fourth with a solo homer, the lone blemish on spot starter Hunter Ackerman. Ackerman struck out nine in four innings, the most by a starter this season. Alexi Colon put Schaumburg ahead for good with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, his third of the season.

Windy City scored twice in the eighth but left the tying run in scoring position in the eighth and ninth as Dexter Price secured his eighth save. Clark Labitan picked up the win with three scoreless innings. Vasquez logged three hits with Sean Mahley adding two.

The Boomers (19-13) own the best record in the league in the month of June along with a 13-4 home mark and will aim for a series sweep on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. contest on a Family Day. LHP Rey Rodriguez (1-2, 3.34) will make the start for the Boomers against LHP Jake Fisher (2-4, 5.65). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
