RECAP: Boomers Rally to Sweep

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied from a two-run deficit to notch a 4-3 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts and secure a series sweep.

Trailing 3-1, Michael Valadez produced a two out, two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth to complete the comeback. Schaumburg, winners of a season high five consecutive contests, struck for three two out runs in the sixth to erase the deficit. The rally began when Bobby Martin was hit by a pitch. Mark Nelson followed with a single and Ryan Solberg brought Schaumburg within 3-2 with an RBI infield single. Valadez drove home three runs while Jordan Dean produced three hits. The Boomers finished with 11 hits, the third consecutive performance of 10 or more hits.

Rey Rodriguez earned the win by working six innings. Rodriguez walked two and struck out one. Sean Mahley earned his first save of the season, stranding the tying run at third and go ahead run at second in the ninth. 

The Boomers (20-13) own the best record in the league in the month of June along with a 14-4 home mark this season. Schaumburg enjoys a day off Monday before opening a six-game roadtrip at Gateway on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Seth Webster (2-2, 3.21) is slated to return from injured reserve and make the start against Gateway’s LHP Kerry Kelley (1-0, 1.80).
