RECAP: Boomers Blanked in Series Finale

SAUGET, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were shutout for the first time this season, suffering a 7-0 loss at the hands of the West Division leading Gateway Grizzlies on Thursday night.

Gateway, best home team in the league, swept the three game series, scoring a pair of runs in the third to take the lead. The Grizzlies added four in the fifth, keyed by a three-run homer from Niki Vasquez. Schaumburg moved just two runners to third base in the whole game, struggling against Gateway starter Ja’Vaun West. West worked eight innings in the win. Jordan Dean picked up two hits for the Boomers in the loss. Schaumburg was limited to just seven hits in the game and 19 in the three contests. Cal Bowling threw 6.2 innings in the defeat.
