RECAP: Evansville Rallies Past Boomers

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, could not hold a four run lead as the Evansville Otters rallied to a 10-7 win in the opener of a series Friday night.

Schaumburg jumped all over Evansville starter Zach Petersime, forcing the righty out of the game following just 3.1 innings but could not strike against the bullpen. The Boomers scored a run in the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth, building a 6-2 advantage. Bobby Martin registered a two-run double in the third. Evansville found a way to slowly chip away as the Boomers, losers of four straight, could not record a shutdown inning.

The Otters broke through with five runs in the sixth, erasing a 6-3 deficit to take the lead. Schaumburg finished with 12 hits in the contest, three from Justin Vasquez, who plated a pair of runs. Ross Spurgeon took the loss out of the bullpen.

The series continues on Saturday night with another 6:35 p.m. game. The Boomers have yet to announce a starter while Evansville counters with the league leader in wins, RHP Robert Ramer (7-0, 1.90). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
