RECAP: Bowling Pitches Boomers Past Slammers

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, collected a 5-2 win over the Joliet Slammers behind a solid pitching performance from Cal Bowling to kick off Independence Day weekend on Thursday night.

All five Schaumburg runs scored in the bottom of the second as Joliet starter Greg Billo did not record an out in the frame before exiting. With the bases loaded, Ryan McChesney coaxed a walk to force home the first run. Brian McConkey crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and with the bases loaded Jordan Dean notched an RBI double. Justin Vasquez and Tyler Sciacca also plated runs in the frame.

The five runs were more than enough for Bowling. Bowling worked eight innings and allowed just two runs, trusting his defense. The Boomers turned three double plays in the contest. Dexter Price worked the ninth for the save. Sciacca led the offense with three hits while Mark Nelson added a pair.

Schaumburg continues the homestand on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. with more fireworks as part of the Independence Day celebration. The Normal CornBelters visit and will send RHP Chris Carmain (0-0, 1.80) to the mound against Schaumburg starter Eddie Cody (0-0, 0.00). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
