RECAP: Boomers Treat Huge Crowd to Comeback Win

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Before an Independence Day crowd of 7,178, the 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied to a 6-4 win over the Normal CornBelters.

The Boomers fell behind 4-0 as Normal scored twice in the first and picked up single tallies in the fifth and sixth. Schaumburg had totaled just four hits in the game before notching five straight in the sixth. Gerard Hall opened the scoring with an RBI double. Ty Nelson forced Normal’s starter out of the game with an RBI single. The rally continued against the bullpen with a Michael Valadezsacrifice fly. Alexi Colon tied the game with a single and the go ahead run crossed on an error. Brian McConkey added insurance with an RBI single in the seventh.

Kris Singh earned the win in his professional debut in relief of starter Eddie Cody, who worked five innings. Dexter Priceworked the ninth for his second save in as many nights and 10th of the year. The comeback was the largest of the season for the Boomers, who finished with 12 hits. Everyone who appeared in the game finished with at least one with Tyler Sciacca, Hall, and McConkey putting up two apiece.

Schaumburg continues the homestand with another fireworks display on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. to cap the Independence Day celebration. LHP Hunter Ackerman (1-0, 2.59) starts the game for Schaumburg against LHP Matt Packer (0-0, 0.00). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
