RECAP: Boomers Cruise to Sweep

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, cruised to a 9-3 win over the Normal CornBelters to sweep a weekend series.

Schaumburg, winners of four straight, batted around in the second and again in the third to race to a 7-0 lead and chase Normal’s starter. Alexi Colon opened the scoring with a two out two-run triple. Justin Vasquez made it 3-0 with an RBI single and Mark Nelson followed with a run scoring double in the second. Ryan McChesney logged a two out double to score a run in the third and Vasquez added a two run single. Brian McConkey would homer in the sixth to finish the offense for the Boomers.

Danny Jimenez earned the win on the mound, twirling six innings and allowing just one run. Kris SinghClark Labitan, and Ross Spurgeon also appeared. Vasquez and McConkey collected two hits each as all nine players reached base at least once. Schaumburg owns a record of 18-5 at home this season.

Schaumburg (25-19) hits the road to begin a three game series with the River City Rascals on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Seth Webster (3-2, 2.57) will start the opener for the Boomers against RHP Ben Bracewell (1-0, 4.36).
