Vasquez, Dean Named 2014 Frontier League All-Stars

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The defending Champion and reigning Organization of the Year, the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, will be represented by outfielder Justin Vasquez and second baseman Jordan Dean at the 2014 Frontier League All-Star Game, it was announced today.

SCROLL DOWN FOR BOTH ALL-STAR ROSTERS

Vasquez, 25, was named a starter in the outfield for the West Division after a blistering start to the 2014 season. As of games through July 6, the 5-foot-10 outfielder owns the ninth best batting average in the entire league to go along with a sparkling .401 on-base percentage and .473 slugging percentage to lead the way in both categories for the Boomers. Vasquez boasts seven doubles, four triples and three homers while also leading the Boomers in RBI with 25. The lefty has started all 44 of the Boomers games in 2014.

Dean, 23, will serve as the reserve second baseman for the West Division in his first full season with the Boomers. Through Sunday, July 6, Dean holds a .274/.335/.354 slash line with seven doubles, a triple and one home run to go along with 20 runs batted in. A very rangy defender, Dean leads the Boomers with eight stolen bases and has been a standout with his glove for the league’s top defensive team in the first half of the season.

Both players will represent Schaumburg at the 2014 Frontier League All-Star game on Wednesday, July 16 in Sauget, Ill. at GCS Ballpark, the home of the Gateway Grizzlies at 7:05 p.m. Including Vasquez and Dean, the Boomers have sent a total of 17 representatives to the annual mid-season classic over the past three years.

The Schaumburg Boomers were heavily represented at the 2013 Frontier League All-Star Game on July 17 in Washington, Penn. as Sean Mahley, Steve McQuail and Michael Valadez were announced as starters for the West Division squad with Gerard Hall and Chris Phelan named reserves.

In 2012, the Boomers sent 10 representatives to the All-Star Game held on July 10 in Normal, Ill. Frank Pfister started the game as the West Division third baseman and was joined by teammates Cameron RothPatrick MinceyChad Mozingo and Sean MahleyJamie Bennett, as manager of the team with the best record at the break, selected the coaching staff for the West Team with Bench Coach Mike Kashirsky, Hitting Coach C.J. Thieleke, Pitching Coach Paul Kubon and Athletic Trainer Scott Waehler making the trip from Schaumburg as well.

The general manager, field manager, three coaches, radio broadcaster and two members of the local media cast votes for each of the Frontier League’s 14 teams voted to determine the players who will participate in the All-Star Game. With three additional players to be added on Thursday by the West Division Manager, the Boomers still could have further all-stars to announce.

Beginning on Friday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. with Star Wars Night and FIREWORKS presented by COUNTRY Financial and 104.3 K-HiTS, the Boomers have one final home series before the break as the Joliet Slammers invade Schaumburg this weekend. The fun continues with a Jimmy Buffett Night doubleheader at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 with post-game fireworks presented by COUNTRY Financial and 104.3 K-HiTS, and the weekend concludes with Family Sunday and I Love Prairie Chickens Day at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 13.
