RECAP: Boomers Falter in Series Opener

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened the final series of the first half with a 14-3 loss to the Joliet Slammers.

Joliet scored seven times in the second inning on six hits. Schaumburg starter Hunter Ackerman was still able to work into the seventh before Joliet struck again with a big frame, tallying six more runs. The Boomers plated all three runs in the fifth inning, clawing within 8-3 before the second big inning. Brian McConkey posted an RBI double and All-Star Michael Valadez notched a two-run double to account for the scoring. Valadez finished with a pair of hits.

The Boomers play a doubleheader against the Slammers on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. on Jimmy Buffett Night at Boomers Stadium. LHP Danny Jimenez (3-3, 4.20) will start one of the games with a TBA starter in the other. Joliet is TBA in both contests. The games can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
