RECAP: Boomers Capture Double from Joliet

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, took both ends of a doubleheader from the Joliet Slammers on Saturday night.

The Boomers posted a 4-3 walk off win in the opener on a game winning single from Ty Nelson in the bottom of the seventh. The heroics were needed after Joliet tied the game with two outs in the top of the inning. Schaumburg held the lead for almost the entire contest. Nelson tied the game by drawing a bases loaded walk in the first and Joe De Pinto put the Boomers ahead with an RBI single. Nelson finished 3-for-3 in the contest. Bobby Martin homered in the second to extend the lead. Danny Jimenez worked six innings and struck out four in a no decision.

Game two, a 7-6 decision, saw the Boomers grab an early 2-0 lead on a two run single from Brian McConkey. The lead reached 4-1, but Joliet battled with three runs in the third to tie the score. Tyler Sciacca put the Boomers ahead in the sixth by being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Sciacca finished with three hits and three RBIs. The deciding run scored on a wild pitch. Clark Labitan worked 1.1 innings in relief of Anthony Smith to earn the win. Dexter Price closed out his 12th save.

The Boomers (28-22) own a 5-1 record in doubleheaders this season and a 20-5 mark at home. Schaumburg closes the first half of the year with a 1:00 p.m. Family Day contest on Sunday. RHP Seth Webster (3-2, 3.40) starts for the Boomers while Joliet counters with RHP Andrew Busby (1-3, 4.71).
