RECAP: Boomers Drop First Half Finale in Extras

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, closed the first half of the season with a 7-4 loss in 10 innings to the Joliet Slammers.

Joe De Pinto handed the Boomers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a two out two-run single. De Pinto finished with two hits and three RBIs in the game. Joliet responded with four consecutive runs. Schaumburg rallied to tie the game with a run in the sixth and another in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Sciacca. The visitors plated three in the top of the 10th to account for the final. The Boomers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but were unable to break through. Starter Seth Webster allowed just one earned run in six innings in a no decision.

The Boomers (28-23) will send three to the Frontier League All-Star Game hosted by the Gateway Grizzlies on Wednesday night. The second half of the year opens with a six game roadtrip against the Rockford Aviators on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
