RECAP: Boomers Open Second Half with Win
LOVES PARK, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, overcame a five run deficit to notch a 7-6 victory over the Rockford Aviators in the second half opener on Thursday night.
 
Trailing 6-1, the Boomers were able to tie the game by scoring five times in the fifth. All-Star Justin Vasquez slugged a two-run homer to open the scoring in the frame. Brian McConkey posted an RBI double with two outs to bring the Boomers within 6-4. Mark Nelson tied the game with a two-run single. Schaumburg took the lead for the first time on a sacrifice fly from All-Star Michael Valadez to drive home Joe De Pinto.
 
Eddie Cody earned the win by working five scoreless innings in relief of starter Cal Bowling. Cody struck out seven to earn his first professional victory. Dexter Price recorded the final out for his 13th save. Schaumburg lashed out 15 hits with Vasquez and Alexi Colon picking up three each.
 
The Boomers (29-23) continue the series on Friday night with a 7:05 p.m. contest against the Aviators with LHP Danny Jimenez (3-3, 3.90) on the hill against RHP Josh Slaats (4-3, 3.29).
