RECAP: Boomers Slug Past Traverse City

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, collected a 14-11 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums on Friday night to improve to a league best 22-7 at home.

The Boomers capped a crazy first inning by scoring four runs to grab an early 4-1 edge. The first two runs scored on an error while Gerard Halland Mark Nelson notched RBIs in the inning. Traverse City put five on the board in the third to retake the lead at 6-4 before Schaumburg notched 10 unanswered runs. Jordan Dean tied the game with a double in the fourth and Alexi Colon lifted a sacrifice fly to hand the Boomers the lead.

Dean registered a two-run single as part of a six-run fifth that put the game out of reach. Joe De Pinto also notched a two run single in the frame. Traverse City was able to put the tying run on deck in the ninth but couldn’t rally. Tyler Sciacca scored three runs and nailed his first pro homer.

Danny Jimenez worked five innings on the mound for the win, allowing just one earned run. Schaumburg tallied 10 hits in the game. Eight individuals scored runs with hits coming from six individuals.

Schaumburg (33-26) will aim for a series sweep on Human Interaction Night Saturday. RHP Seth Webster (3-2, 3.17) starts for the Boomers opposite RHP Tanner Tripp (1-4, 5.06) in a 6:00 p.m. affair that also features postgame fireworks. The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
