RECAP: Boomers Blank Bums to Complete Sweep

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, finished off a three-game home sweep of the Traverse City Beach Bums with the sixth shutout of the season, a 4-0 whitewash on Saturday.

Starter Seth Webster kept Traverse City at bay the entire contest. Webster worked around a bases loaded jam in the top of the third and the Boomers responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Joe De Pinto, who finished 4-for-4 in the contest, drove home the first two runs with a single to left-center. Bobby Martin added a two out RBI single with the fourth run crossing on an error.

Webster, the team’s career leader in strikeouts, worked six blank innings and established a career high with 10 strikeouts. Heith Hatfield and Dexter Price completed the shutout. The Boomers pitchers combined to record 13 strikeouts in the contest.

Schaumburg (34-26) recorded the fourth sweep of the season with the win, all of which have been at home where the Boomers own a league best record of 23-7.

Lake Erie visits to begin a three game series on Sunday afternoon that features the third annual squirt gun fight following the contest. LHP Hunter Ackerman (2-1, 4.11) starts for the Boomers in the 1:00 p.m. contest against RHP Zac Treece (3-2, 2.15).The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
